Field Monument Advisor for County Donegal

 Field Monument Advisor Newspaper Report

Newpaper extract from 'The Inish Times' on the discovery of archaeological monuments in Inishowen and their documentation by Paula Harvey (Field Monument Advisor, Donegal County Council) & Paddy O'Donovan (National Monuments Service, Department of Arts, Heritage & the Gaeltacht)

The Field Monument Advisor Programme was a joint initiative between The Heritage Council and Local Authorities in Ireland. The appointment of a Field Monument Advisor is an action of the County Donegal Heritage Plan (Action 3.2). The first part-time Field Monument Advisor for County Donegal was appointed by Donegal County Council from December 1, 2006 to November 30, 2008 with funding from The Heritage Council and Donegal County Council. The role of the Field Monument Advisor was to:

  • identify field monuments in private ownership in the study area;
  • provide information and advice to landowners on the care and conservation of archaeological monuments in private ownership; and
  • liase with private owners, local authorities and other relevant agencies to assist with the long-term conservation of our archaeological heritage.
